Jimmys story and the Mizen Foundation

Posted on: 23/11/2021

Willowfield School Ethics Department were very pleased to welcome Barry and Margaret Mizen into school last week to speak openly and frankly with year 8-11 about the tragic and senseless killing of their son Jimmy who was murdered in an unprovoked attack in south east London in 2008. Our students listened with empathy as they both told how the only way that they have been able to make sense of Jimmys death was through making a promise that they would try their hardest to reach out and tell his story to young people so that they could attempt to avoid it happening again.

They spoke about the need for forgiveness and reconciliation, and also spoke about the cost of bullying. They challenged the students to be the change, and remember the three most important things in life- forgiveness, peace and hope.

Ms Jones-Lee who helped organise the day said- ‘Our students listened to what was, at times, a difficult story to hear with immense amounts of maturity. After the talk several students discussed how they can help to tackle youth crime and violence and spoke about how inspiring Barry and Margaret were. We were very grateful for them for coming in and sharing their message with us.’
