GCSE joy in the face of unprecedented adversity

My warmest heart-felt best wishes go out to our departing year 11 students who received their examination results on 20 August.

Never in living memory have a group of young people had to face such horrible uncertainty after years of hard work.  Through no fault of their own, they have faced the uncertainty about their futures arising from COVID – not only about what grades they would get, but the worry over whether they would even get their GCSE results.

I do not want to dwell upon the stressful end of their school career, but would like to celebrate and congratulate each and every student, who, at the end of their Willowfield experience, can now go on to take on the world and fulfil their dreams.  Many have already achieved great things through hard work and sacrifice, overcoming real barriers on their way to such richly deserved success.  A huge thank you to our dedicated staff who worked tirelessly to help our students get the best possible grades in such difficult circumstances.

There are so many success stories, but I would like to make a special mention of the following students:

Our highest attainers with six grade 9s in different subjects, are:

  • Arthur Jeans
  • Daisy O’Connell

Our high attainers, averaging over a grade 8 for their subjects, are:

  • Hamd Ali Abid
  • Eve Faulkner
  • Zayn Niazi
  • Raees Nojeeb
  • Emily Walters
  • Anna Zareva

Our students who made most progress during their time at Willowfield are:

  • Imaan Ahmed
  • Samuela Antiedu
  • Eve Faulkner
  • Beatrice Kazakeviciute
  • Zayn Niazi
  • Daria Nica
  • Daisy O’Connell
  • Edin Salihovic
  • Ahmed Yasir
  • Anna Zareva.
