Letter from the Headteacher - 03/04/2020

Dear Parents/Carers,

It is extremely difficult to know where to begin as I write to you with my end of term letter. In a matter of days, the whole world has been turned upside down by the Covid-19 crisis. As you will all appreciate, the decision for us to close to most students was completely beyond our control and something I wish we did not have to do. However, the health and wellbeing of everyone is more important than anything else and this break in schooling will, I hope, help to play a vital role in beating this virus.

Learning at Willowfield has not stopped just because we cannot all be in the building. Our teachers are working hard to help our students continue their learning and keep their thinking muscles working so that when the time does come to return, the disruption to learning and progress will have been kept to a minimum. I am so grateful to all staff at Willowfield and would like to record my thanks for the professional and hardworking way they are doing everything they can to provide learning and feedback for your children. It is fantastic to see so many students working hard away from the building and a huge thank you to you all for your support in making this work. For all of the staff at Willowfield, it is certainly not a case of “out of sight, out of mind” and we have an army of staff visiting and calling to check our students are well, safe and able to access their home learning- many of you will have already had such a visit or received a call. To help you support your child’s home learning and protect their wellbeing and safety, please click on this link for advice and guidance, and the latest guidance from the government.
I would also like to thank you as parents and carers for the many many messages of gratitude we have received. It really does mean so much to my colleagues and me to receive such positive feedback– rest assured that we will continue to care for and work with you and your children to keep them safe and keep their brains working and their learning progressing.

This has been a terribly difficult time for us all in so many ways. So many of you will be desperately worried not only about health matters but also about the financial implications of this crisis. I hope that we are helping to alleviate some of the pressure and I honestly cannot wait for the time to come when I can welcome back all students. That will truly be a day of celebration that I hope is not too far away. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact us if there is anything at all we might be able to help with.
